Abstract:
The cross-sectional study was done in ultrasound unit at a tertiary hospital in
Jeddah-KSA from January 2018 to June 2019. The problem of the study to
show relationship between Internal carotid artery with smoking habits,
hypertension and diabetes mullets patients and did common carotid artery able
to evaluate intima media thickness. The objectives of this study were evaluating
internal carotid artery in diabetes mullets, hypertension and smokers patients
using common carotid arteries doppler ultrasound prevalence through age,
gender. Also evaluate of internal carotid artery by calculating peak systolic
velocity internal carotid artery, Peak systolic velocity common carotid artery,
intima media thickness and found of plaques or not. Addition to show
homodynamic of blood by doppler mode. That data was collected variables
included using Toshiba Aplio (500), Philips EPIQ7G machines with ultrasound
probe (7.5) mega hertiz. The data were analysis by statistical package for social
sciences. This study done in 52 patients in age (43-93) years most of the were
male 61.5% concern medical history 40.4% diabetes mullets, hypertension and
smoker's patients. The result revealed that was no significant correlation
between genders for 6 females had stenosis and 16 males from 32patients had
stenosis P-value more than 0.05.
The study found that between doppler indices, intima media thickness, Peak
systolic velocity common carotid artery, Peak systolic velocity internal carotid
artery and present of plaques the P-value more than 0.05. The study found that
no significant different of patient history and present internal carotid artery
stenosis for diabetes mullets, hypertension and smoking 11 for stenosis.
Study recommended further studies should be done with increasing size of
sample, using application of ultrasound in obesity, body mass index and how
they affect carotid arteries.
