Abstract:
This was descriptive study conducted in National Ribat Teaching Hospital during the period from September 2018 to February 2019. The problem of study was the lack of previous studies in Sudan regarding the evaluation of prostatic volume in asymptomatic patients, to the best of the researcher's knowledge. The main objective of the study was to evaluate prostate Volume in asymptomatic patients Using ultrasonography. The data were collected by data collection sheet and analyzed by statistical packaged for social studies. The study done on 60 asymptomatic patients who were randomly selected with age ranged from 18 to 89 years. Tran-abdominal ultrasound scanning by 3.5 MHz probes was performed, and the maximum height, width, and depth of their prostate diameters were obtained, as well as their prostate volumes.
The results of the study showed that the mean age, height, weight and body mass index was 45.88 ± 18.75 years, 146.92± 7.603 cm, 73.33± 14.335 kg, 23.47± 4.42 kg/cm respectively. The mean prostate volume was 33.15±25.34 cm3 and the most frequent age group was between 18-32 years.the study found 45%were enlarged. Most of the prostates were homogenous in texture with no presence of calcification .the study showed that there was significant association in prostate volume with age, weight, and BMI (p value less than 0.01 and 0.05), no significant correlation with height (p value more than 0.05), no significant correlation between prostate size with echo texture and presence of calcification (p value less than 0.05).
The study recommended further studies should be done with large sample size & different variable.
