Abstract:
This is cross sectional descriptive analytical study
performed in Berber, Atbara and Aldamer hospitals in
River Nile State during the period 25/4/2011 to the
10/6/2011 to determine the effect of maternal anemia on
cord blood hematological parameters. Hundered anemic
pregnant mothers all of them with Hb> 10.5gm/dl were
selected randomly after pretesting for the hemoglobin
colouremitricaly estination before delivery, then the cord
blood samples were collected from their neonates
57males &43females,16of them were pretern babies
investigate to determine the hemoglobin (Hb), packed
cells volume (PCV), red and white blood cells count (TRBCs
& TWBCs), platelets count (Plts), morphology and
maturation of cells with p. values < 0.05 The study
showed that there are no significant differences among
different age groups of mothers and gender of babies in
Hb, TRBCs, TWBCs & differential, retics, plts count. There
was significant difference in PCV apparent in comparison
between full and pre term neonates born to the same
mothers with little variation in mature RBCs when
compared to neonates parameters born from healthy
mothers with p. values> 0.05
In conclusion anemia has no effect on the faetus
