Abstract:
This is a cross- sectional study conducted in the military hospital in
khartoum state during the period from Faberuary to Augest 2012.
The aim of this study is to compare the serum levels of urate , creatinine
and blood HbA1c % of 60 patients with type 2 diabetes as a test group
and 40 apparently healthy subjects as a control group . Age and sex were
for both the test group and the control group were matched. Serum urate ,
creatinine and blood HbA1c were determined using cobas integra 400
plus and kits from Rouch company .
This study Shows a significant increase in the serum urate, creatinine
and blood HbA1c% in type 2 diabetic patients compared with non
diabetic subjects as control ( P
≤ 0.05 ). In addition
a positive
relationship was noticed between duration of the diabetes mellitus with
both serum urate and the serum creatinine . Insignificant a weak positive
relationship was observed between the serum levels of creatinine and the
BMI .Where as no significant correlation was noticed between the BMI
and the serum levels of urate .HbA1c% showed week positive relationship
with the duration .
Inconclusion; the
serum levels of urate ,creatinine and
blood Hb A1c% are increased in diabetic patients with
type 2 diabetes mellitus. There is positive correlation
between urate ,creatinine and blood Hb A1c % and the
duration of diabetes mellitus. There is a weak relationship
between the serum levels of creatinine and the BMI , and
no correlation between the serum levels of urate and
the BMI .
