Abstract:
This research aims to investigate the impact of Phrasal verbs and Idiomatic expressions On English to Arabic Translation. Throughout this study the researcher attempts to solve the problems which hinder second year students in translation. The study adopts the Descriptive analytical method. The researcher designs two tests (pre and post tests) on phrasal verbs and idioms for the disciples. The former aims to measure the students’ ability in dealing with the problems posted by phrasal verbs and idioms, while the latter aims to measure their competence after being taught how phrasal verbs and idioms are translated. The test is administrated to a total sample of 20 students in the pre test, whereas 10 students are tested in the post one. Moreover, the researcher makes the following findings: translating phrasal verbs and idioms is a difficult task for 2nd year students, 2nd year Sudan University Students are not familiar with phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions, using phrasal verbs and idioms in speech makes the conversation goes on and speech becomes more interesting.In the light of these results the researcher makes the following recommendation:students should master the knowledge of phrasal verbs and idioms so as to develop their speaking skill as well as their translation, syllabus designersshould allocate at least one chapter concerning translating phrasal verbs and idioms in addition to their meaning in English.
