Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the impact of the syllabus on vocabulary acquisition. The study focuses mainly on SPINE in particular, one, two and three series for basic schools pupils. Then it processes vocabulary acquisition as the main issue in language learning after explaining definitions, importance and types and pointed to classroom activities in vocabulary acquisition with many examples . Teachers role in acquiring vocabulary in accordance with their functions. The data which has been collected by a questionnaire included 50 teachers, their case study basic school pupils who study SPINE syllabus. The finding of the present study clearly indicates that syllabus affects on pupils in vocabulary acquisition. The impact of classroom is very important for adding new vocabulary to the pupils, such as pictures, games and direct translation. This depend on the following recommendations : Creating new syllabus instead of SPINE series include useful materials that help teachers and pupils to deal with each others. Initiate new technique in classroom to add more activities to rich pupils' vocabulary. Pupils need strong opportunities to build their personal warehouse of words, to develop deep levels of words knowledge, and acquire a toolbox of strategies that aids their independent word acquisition. Computer technology can be used effectively to help teaching vocabulary.
