Abstract:
The dental panoramic radiography is one of dental imaging that used to visualize the entirety
of the maxilla and mandible jaws on one image. This study aims to enhance Orthopantogram
images using image processing technique where IDL program were used .The sample of this
study consisted of 95 images of Orthopantogram selected conveniently, the study was carried
out in Elnasery Dental clinic during the period from DEC 2013 to April 2015. IDL program
technique such as histogram equalization, filtering an image with mean filter is used on this
study to analyzed and enhanced data. The results of this study showed a significant difference
between the original image and the enhanced images in term of contrast through histogram
equalization .The study showed the noise in low and high intensity before and after
enhancement was 97.08 and 100.39 respectively, and in high was 64.31 and 59.09 and after
using mean filter the result was 94.94 and 101.1 in low intensity and in high intensity areas
was 63.9 and 59.57. The signal in low and high intensity before and after enhancement was
