An analytical hospital based case- control study conducted during the period, from February to July 2014, to estimate the serum levels of calcium and phosphorus of 40 Sudanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus as a test group compared to 40 healthy subjects as control group. Participants in this study were from Jabir Abu Al Eizz center in Khartoum state, Sudan. Males and females were matched in term of age (ranges 40-80 years). The serum levels of calcium and phosphorus were measured using colorimeter model JENWAY and commercial kits from Biosystem Company. The results obtained and analyzed using software program (SPSS). The means and standards deviation of serum levels of calcium and phosphorus were detected and T-test was use for comparison (p. value of < 0.05 is considered to be significant), Linear regression analysis was used to assess correlation between the levels of calcium and phosphorus to the duration of diabetes mellitus and the age of diabetic patients. The serum levels of calcium was not significantly differ between patients and controls (p=0.652). The serum levels of phosphorus was significantly differ between patients and controls (p=0.000). In the diabetic group, the serum levels of calcium showed insignificant very weak negative correlation with the duration and age, the serum levels of phosphorus showed insignificant very weak positive correlation with the duration and age , and both not affected by sex of diabetic patients. From the results of this study, it conclude that: type 2 diabetes mellitus have no effect in calcium level but decrease serum level of phosphorus.en_US
