Abstract: Surgery department design has profound effect on work efficiency, infection control and psychology of patients and staff working in the area. To insure the success of design it should have multi-disciplinary team participating in it and in the planning of the department of surgery at a new hospital or a new extension in hospital. A working group composed of doctors, nurses, hospital administrators and Architects involved in the planning, should form planning committee to insure coordination and integration between the management plan with the hospital master plan. The study has trying to cover the major points that help to guide designers to design those types of health facilities. The study hasraised some inquiries that need clarifications like: sufficiencyand appropriateness of surgical department in Sudan's hospitals, determine the status of Sudan according to international standard &specifications of designing and constructing requirements and regulations. The research methodology is based on primary data extracted from interviews with specialists in some surgery departments in Sudan and analysis of different sampling of case studies in random places representing the governmental and private hospitals, secondary data was taken from literaturepublished booksofficial studies, specialized magazines and periodical medications.all the collected data has been analyzed descriptively and compared with scientifically proven international standards. The major scope of the research that in the planning and designing and constructing levels concentrated on following the international standards and specifications, the last chapter contain the researcher's conclusions.
