Direct Current (DC) motors have been used widely during the last century in applications where variable speed operation was needed. The main reason for their popularity is the ability to control their torque and flux easily and independently. Therefore, the control of the speed of a DC motor is an important issue and has been studied since the early decades in the last century. Over the past decades, many techniques have been developed for the DC motor speed control. Some of these methods were based on classical or intelligent approaches. The most commonly used controller for the speed control of DC motors is conventional Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) controller. In spite of the major features of the conventional PID controller, it has some disadvantages such as the high starting overshoot in speed, and the sensitivity to controller gains. This makes the use of traditional PID controller a poor choice for industrial variable speed applications where higher dynamic control performance with little overshoot and high efficiency is required. The above issues can be solved by advanced control techniques. The main objective of this project is to control the speed of DC motor using adaptive inverse control technique. The efficiency of the adaptive inverse control technique has been verified using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.en_US
