Abstract: The home garden is an important part of the residential building and for this reason this study was made to shed light on this part which is mostly neglected in Sudan. The research aims at identifying the parts related to home garden landscaping, its effect on the climate and to what extent it can be used in improving the microclimate factors. Since the residence is the place in which the person spends most of his time, the selection was made to the home garden as a tool assisting in adaptation of the external environment with the factors of microclimate. In order to establish these facts and find out to which extent the research hypotheses are correct, the systematic theoretical study was backed up by data from books, references and field study of the city of Omdurman (as a case study). Due to the difficulty of studying the whole area, samples of houses which contain gardens in three different residential areas were selected. Questionnaires were used as tools to gather information about rest of the region. The information was analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) to obtain the results of the study. The study established the following results which are: Home garden design has an impact on microclimate around buildings. Also the adaptation with the microclimate factors can be achieved through the home garden design. In addition there is a lack of interest in home gardens in Sudan, although the majority of house holders support that the garden is important in each house. Finally, the study found out the reasons for non-interest of home gardening, and many other aspects which are related to home garden design in Sudan These results have proved the correctness of the study hypothesis .The research was concluded with a number of recommendations related to the results.
