Abstract: Refrigeration compressors are very sensitive to the ambient temperature. In the Sudan the performance of compressors falls to less value than the rated values under high temperature conditions. The right selection for suitable compressor is very important because the peak demand season in Sudan for Air conditioning and Refrigeration happen in the summer months. The main purpose of this research is to select a suitable compressor which runs efficiently in Sudan climate. In this research, Two types of positive displacement refrigeration compressors are thermodynamically &technically analyzed in this research:- 1. Reciprocating compressor. 2. Rotary compressor. The study recommends that rotary compressors are suitable at low and medium ambient temperatures ranges while reciprocating compressors are recommended at the high ambient temperature ranges.
