Abstract: The fundamentals for continued growth of broadband wireless remain sound. According to the Ericsson’s official forecasts, the addressable global market of wireless internet broadband connectivity reaches to 320 million users by the end of 2010. The opportunity for BWA/WiMAX to serve those who want to switch to broadband service is huge in many parts of the world where wireline technologies may not be feasible. This thesis try to implement all compulsory features of the WiMAX physical layer specified in IEEE 802.16-2004 using Matlab Simulink model. Optional space-time coding (STC) for more than one transmit antenna is implemented to allow performance investigations in various MIMO scenarios. Performance also improved by implemented AMC Adaptive Modulation and Coding to tracking signal. Without physical boundaries, a wireless network faces many more security threats than a wired network does. Therefore, in the IEEE 802.16 standard a security sublayer is specified in the MAC layer to address the privacy issues across the fixed Broadband Wireless Access (BWA). This thesis, also gives an overview of the IEEE 802.16 standard, focusing on MAC layer specially the security sublayer. And analyzing the security flaws in the standards.
