Abstract: The title of this study is: the Problem of informative text comprehension via translation in language 1 and 2 for Sudanese students. The purpose of this study is to find relevant solutions that help to understand these types of texts. To realize this objective, the researcher has done a field study in Sudan University of Sciences and Technology (Faculty of languages). After finishing the text that contains 4 questions, two questions to be answered in Arabic, and two to be answered in French – as follows: 1- What is the general idea of the text? 2- Summarize this text between 50 to 60 words. The text has been distributed to the selected sample; 3rd year students of French language (20 males/females students) who were selected randomly, and after answering the questions, the answers have been analyzed following the statistical descriptive method, and the results were as follows: Question 1: 40 % of the students answered it correctly, where as 60 % answered it wrongly. Question 2: 15 % of the students answered it correctly, and 85 % failed to answer correctly. Question 3: 10 % of the students answered it correctly, and 90 % answered it wrongly. Question 4: 15 % of the students answered it correctly, where as 85 % answered it wrongly. According to the above results, it’s clear that most of the students are unable to understand such texts even when they use the Arabic/French dictionary, and this is due to the fact that the students were not acquired to the principles of translation in the previous years of the university study.
