Abstract: The objectives of this thesis project are to investigate and understand the contingency analysis for power systems, with the main focus on contingency analysis theories and computer applications. The thesis first explained the definition of power system security and the effect of contingency analysis to power system security. It then showed how power system network equipments are affected by contingency analysis. The thesis examined the concept of contingency analysis and some theories. The thesis also studies NEC Grid during peak and off-peak load periods by using a computer programs, the study applied contingency outages to the network and gave a summary for load flow solutions, and also it applied functions that gave suggestions to prevent systems from breakdowns.
