Abstract: This study aims to investigate the problems of understanding reading comprehension of English language among second year Sudanese university students. The researcher will adopt in this study the descriptive method. The population of the study consists of (25) lecturers from Bakht er- Ruda university, and also (100) students from the second year in the same university. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaire and test. Having finished analyzing the data statistically, the study came out with the following findings: - Variation of teaching methods encourages students understanding reading comprehension. - Students’ weak vocabulary knowledge affects their understanding. - Explaining grammatical structure through texts increases students’ understanding comprehension. - Supporting texts with pictures and shapes help students to understand the texts well.
