dc.description.abstractThe soot that accumulates in the boilers tubes due to fuel combustion has a technical and economic negative impact, so there are different types and methods to operate and control the soot blowing systems. The enhancement in the control means for boiler soot blower in the steam power plant is going to improve the overall boiler efficiency. The existing control system of the steam boiler soot blower of the 30 Megawatts units in Khartoum North Power Station is composed of relays and contactors, thus, there are many deficiencies in the system such as unreliability, complicated troubleshooting, hard following of wiring diagrams and more over that maintenance work is costly. The purpose of this work is to use Allen Bradley programmable logic controller with RSLogix 500 software to control the boiler soot blower to reduce the spare part, maintenance time consumption and to provide automatic operation, thus the operator will be capable of monitoring and controlling all of the stages of the soot blowing process.en_US
