dc.description.abstractThe study aims to identify, assess and investigate the type of spelling errors that are done by Karary University Students-School of Languages students. It also attempts to explore the reasons behind these spelling errors and provides scientific solution to overcome them. The study reviews some studies relevant to spelling skills and presents some tips and implications for teaching spelling. Then, the study describes the tools for collecting data , the participants and the methods are applied by researcher. The data have been analyzed by using statistical analyses of quantitative data. The results show that there are many reasons behind spelling errors such as English spelling is different from Arabic, students write words as they pronounced them, irregularity of English sound and letters and mother tongue interference. Finally the study recommends that the teacher should give the students time and a lot of practice in spelling skills and. EFL teachers. need to adopt suitable approaches to teach spelling. The study suggests that EFL teachers, researchers and competent authorities should conduct some studies, arrange conferences and workshops address all English problems in Sudan.en_US
