This is a discriptive cross sectional study was undertaken at Omdurman teaching hospital between ( April 2011 to August 2011). A total number of 100 renal failure patients on haemodialysis were consecutively recruited. The aim of this study is to assess the complete blood count by using sysmex, serum iron and serum ferritin concentration were also measured spectrophtometrically. The age of the study group were found to be ranged from 18 to 86 year old. The study revealed that, patients, hemoglobin (Hb) levels ranged from 4.9 g/dl to 14.9 g/dl with a mean of . 8.8 g/dl (± 2.1 ) Hematocrit levels ranged from 15.3% to 43.2%, with a mean of . 25.7% (± 6.5 ) according to the WHO's criteria a hemoglobin level of less than 10 g/dl is used as a cutoff point, for the presence of anemia in dialyzed patients. Serum iron decreased in more than half of the patient the mean is12.0μmol/l (±0.43) which result in iron deficiency anemia in some patients. Also increase in serum ferritin concentration in most of patients and the mean is 273.2μg/l (±177.9 ). patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) often present with anemia. Anemia in these patients may be caused by several factors, including iron deficiency, inadequate dialysis and chronic inflammation. Iron repletion is necessary for optimum Hb level in patients with chronic renal failure. However blood loss and reduce absorption render iron repletion difficult.en_US
