The main aim of this study is to investigate infection of pregnant women by rubella and Cytomegalovirus ( CMV ) in Khartoum State, during the period from March to July , 2013 . Blood samples were aseptically, collected from ninety pregnant women (n=90) with all three trimesters of pregnancy attending different antinatel clinics (Omdurman Teaching Hospital , Khartoum North Teaching Hospital , and Alsaudi Hospital). Enzyme- Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) was used to detect rubella and CMV ( IgM and IgG ) antibodies in the sera of all tested women . The results obtained that IgM for rubella and CMV were 13.3% and 22.2% , respectively , while IgG for rubella and CMV were 74.4% and 77.8% , respectively . The highest frequency of rubella IgM ( 27% ) was detected among the age group 26-31 years , the lowest ( 5% ) was observed among the age group 38-43 years ; while the highest rubella IgG ( 80 % ) was detected among the age group 38-43 years , the lowest ( 67% ) was observed among the age group 20- 25 years. Moreover , while the highest frequency of CMV IgM ( 28 % ) was detected among the age group 20 - 25 years , the lowest ( 14 % ) was observed among the age group 26 - 31 years . For CMV IgG while the highest frequency ( 86 % ) was detected among the age group 26-31 years , the lowest ( 72% ) was observed among the age group 20-25 years . The highest frequencies of positive rubella and CMV IgM and IgG were observed among the first trimester of pregnancy . However , no significant difference (P > 0.05) was observed among the three trimesters and the different age groups of all pregnant women examined in this study .en_US
