| dc.description.abstract | This study is a descriptive prospective and analytical study, conducted at Radiation and Isotopes Center Khartoum (RICK) during the period between December 2009 to April 2010. The aim of this study was to evaluate haemostatic status among Sudanese leukemic patients at (RICK). People recruited for this study are 50 leukemic patients (13 acute myeloid leukemia- AML, 13 acute lymphoblastic leukemia –ALL, 19 chronic myeloid leukemia-CML and 5 chronic lymphocytic leukemia-CLL). Among the patients 34 males and 16 females of a mean age 35.0 years, also 10 health individuals were considered as a control. Blood sample were collected from both patients and control and investigated for prothrombin time- PT, activated partial thromboplastin time- APTT and Platelets count using routine methods. Fully automated hematology analyzer (Sysmex) was used for Platelets count and manual analysis for PT and APTT tests. The results of this study showed prolongation in PT and APTT compared to control and the CLL differences were statistically significant (P<0.05) in cases of AML, CML and patients. Platelets count was reduced compared to control and the differences was statistically significant (P<0.05) in cases of AML, and CLL patients, platelets count was normal Compared to control and statistically insignificant (P>0.05) in ALL and CML patients. Results also showed that PT and APTT were within normal range compared to control and statistically insignificant (P>0.05) only in ALL patients. Due to prolongation in PT and APTT and decrease in Platelets count, the present results concluded that the leukemic patients are at risk of bleeding problems | en_US |
