dc.description.abstractHuman papilloma virus (HPV) infection is the main cause of cervical cancer. HPV and cervical abnormalities further investigation in Sudan, one of the main objectives of this study is to demonstrate association between HPV infection and cytological changes .To screen study group for presence of cytological a typia using Papanicolaou stain. This cross sectional descriptive study was performed at Sudan University of Sciences and Technology. Cytology samples were collected from obstetrics and gynecology clinic in , Khartoum Teaching Hospital and Omdurman Friendship Hospital. During the period between February and May 2011. A total number of two hundred cervical smears were collected from woman in deferent age suffering from gynecological symptoms. Samples were smeared on microscopical slides and stained with Papanicolaou stain and screened primary with the investigator and results were confirmed by supervisor. The cytological findings of smears were 145 (72.5%) normal, 50(25%) with different type of infection ( Candida infection 14(7%) ,Trichomonas vaginals 14(7%), HPV infection 16(8%), Candid ,HPV & Actinomyces infection 1(.5%) Tricomonas & HPV infection 1(.5%), Candida infection & HPV infection 2(1%), Adenocarcinoma & HPV infection 1(.5%) , Leptothrix & Trichomonas vaginals 1(.5%) ) , 3(1.5%) suffering from Adenocarcinoma and 2(1%) cervical glandular intraepithelial neoplasia (CGIN), This study recommends that cytological investigation from women suffering from gynecological symptoms HPV infection should be taken in consideration during gynecological examination, As it is one of the main causes of cervical cancer. Our findings confirm low levels of cervical cancer screening, and considered amount of (HPV) infection are present among women in Khartoum state.en_US
