Abstract: In recent years, there has been a surge in the number of organizations wanting to embrace IT systems that support the notion of business-to-employee (B2E) electronic business. Trade magazines are now filled with many short essays and case reports highlighting the benefits of B2E e-business systems. However, little is reported in the e-business literature about the adoption of B2E e-business systems. Thus, it is not clearly known what factors facilitate the decision of large organizations to adopt these systems. This thesis introduces a model identifies the factors affecting portal use in different setting. The thesis started by identified the key factors that are reported to have an effect on the usage practices of IT applications from core theoretical frameworks and previous studies. Then the factors that are expected to affect the use of B2E portals by employees are listed. The proposed model contains 42 potential determinate factors covering eight important contexts: individual, technological, environmental, organizational, information and system quality, satisfaction and demographic characteristics. This thesis was conducted by using a survey. The empirical data were collected through paper based and online questionnaires from different Sudanese companies includes software, communication and petroleum companies, banks, ministries and government institutions. The analysis was based on a number of techniques including reliability and validity test, ANOVA test, correlation analysis and chi-square independent test techniques on Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings reveal interesting insights into understanding the adoption and use of B2E portal, and the more interesting findings reveal that: organizational support for innovation, providing security policies to protect the portal and personal information, availability of financial resources, incentives, support, awareness, the quality of portal and information are significantly positively associated with the adoption and use of B2E portal. The thesis brings up the interesting findings that guide the managers to adopt and use the B2E portal and provide the theoretical grounds for studying factors influencing the portal use. Moreover, the thesis’s limitations and suggestions for further work are provided.
