Immunohistochemical Detection of ki67 in Prostate tumors

Abstract

This is retrospective descriptive hospital based study aimed to detect the of ki67 tumor marker expression in the diagnosis of prostatic tumors. The study was conducted in Radio istope center –Khartoum Sudan during the period from April to August 2013. Thirty prostate paraffin blocks previously diagnosed as prostate tumors were collected. Their ages ranged from 53 to 93 with mean age 70 years. The majority of cases were above age 60 years 23 (76.7%). One section of 3μm in thickness was cut from each block using rotary microtome. Sections were prepared and stained for immunohistochemistry using new indirect method (Dako(code IS 62630). Out of 20 (66.6%) cases of prostate adenocarcinoma, 10 (33.33%) sections gave positive expression and the remaining 10 (33.33%) sections gave negative results for ki67, while in 10 (33.33%) cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia 2(6.7%) sections gave positive and 8(26.6%) sections gave negative results for ki67 . With no significant relation between ki67 expression and tumor behavior. In conclusion no ‫‪association between the expression of ki67 and‬‬ ‫.‪behavior of prostate tumor‬‬
