Impact of using Gas as an alternative to Biomass fuel on the development of Rural Women. Northern Rural Area – Khartoum- North

Abstract

This study intended to investigate the impact of the use of gas as an alternative to biomass fuel on the development of rural women. It was carried out in the north Bahri unit, of Bahri administrative of Khartoum State. A sample of 75 women was selected randomly from three villages in the area. Then data were collected mainly through structured interview using a questionnaire and were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and results were arranged in forms of percentages in the tables of figures. The results indicated that the use of gas has a positive impact through saving time, effort and money. That led rural women to increase care of their families especially children. However, the study explained that the saving time, effort and money from use of gas was not enough to bring about comprehensive development. The recommendations of the study focused on how to find programs for the development of rural women and actively involve them in the planning, implementing and monitoring and evaluation of these programs, so as to get all the advantage of time, money and effort saved as a result of using gas.
