Phytochemical screeing of the alcoholic extract of the leaves of Mimosa pigra indicated the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids and steroids. The flavonoids of Mimosa pigra were investigated and the product obtained from the alcoholic extract was subjected to thin-layer chromatography, which indicated the presence of a single flavnoid, flavonoid (I), which was isolated in the pure state. The UV spectrum of flavonoid I and its colour reactions indicated that it is a catchin. Also the flavonoids, of Ipomoea equita, were investigated and the product obtained from the alcoholic extract was subjected to thin-layer chromatograpy, which indicated the presence of a single flavonoid, flavonoid (II), which was isolated in pure state. The behavior of flavonoid (II) under UV light and its colour reactions as well as its UV spectrum indicated that it is a flavone Falvonoid I (a catchin) Falvoniod II (a flavone) The hydroxylation pattern of flavonoid II was investigated utilizing shift reagents and flavonoid II was found to have the following hydroxylation pattern.en_US
