| dc.description.abstract | The heartwood of Terminalia brownii was extracted with 95% ethanol at ambient temperature . Qualitative tests on the alcoholic extractives were negative for alkaloids, steroids and anthraquinones , but positive for flavonoids , saponins and tannins. Fractionation of the alcoholic extract over silica gel using butanol : acetic acid : water (BAW) (5:2:6) gave a pure component - compound I . The structure of compound I was deduced on the basis of its IR , UV , NMR and MS spectra and the following structure was suggested . | en_US |
