Abstract: This experiment was conducted in 2012 at the National Botanical Garden at Morgan, Khartoum. The aim of the study was to examine the effect of fertilization on growth of the shoot and root systems .(.of the ornamental plant Polyscias balfourina (Marginata cv Four kinds of fertilizers were examined: organic fertilizer at 40g/ pot, urea fertilizer (46%N) at 40g/ pot, mixture of equal amount of organic fertilizer and urea fertilizer i.e. 20 g organic and 20 g urea per pot, and .untreated plants (control) for comparison The complete randomized design was used with five replicates per treatment. Data were collected for: leaf number, leaf area, plant height, stem thickness, root number and length. Fertilizers application resulted in significant increment in measured parameters except for stem thickness. The best results were obtained from the mixture of urea and organic fertilizer, except for leaf area as the largest leaf area was obtained from .the treatment of organic fertilizer
