We investigate numerically the instability of Poiseuille flow in a fluid overlying on aporous medium saturated with the same fluid. It is shown that there are two modes of instability corresponding to the fluid and porous layers respectively. We consider the compressible flow field established in rectangular porous channel. The analytical results are verified in a numerical simulation, with laminar and turbulent models, and with available experimental data. We analyse the linear stability of symmetric laminar velocity profiles in channels with two identical porous walls as well as skewed laminar velocity profiles in channels with only one porous wall.en_US
