dc.description.abstract | A cross sectional study was conducted in seven localities of North Kordofan State to estimate the prevalence of Foot and Mouth Disease and determine the risk factors which could be associated with Foot and Mouth Disease in bovine species namely: Butana, cori, cross, foja, kenana and Bgara. A total of 336 bovine serum samples were collected from seven localities Shaikan 40, Alrahd 50, Bara 69, Umrwaba 14, Jabrt Alshiekh 43, West Bara 56 and Sodary 64. The samples were tested for antibodies against FMD virus by using 3ABCELISA Kit. The overall prevalence of the disease state was found to be 71.7% .The highest prevalence was 79.1 observed in Jabrt Alshiekh followed by West Bara and Umrwaba 78.6%, Alrahd 78%, Shaikan 75%, Bara 71% and Sodary 56.3%. Statistically, there was high significant association between FMDV and age of animals p-value = 0.000. The prevalence increased with the age especially in the age 3-4years and above 4years which scored the prevalence of 65.2% and 48.4% respectively. The risk increased in those groups of age than young animals. However, there was no statistically significant differences observed in the case of sex of the studied animals, breed and herd size which, p-value = 0.108, p-value = 0.075 and p-value= 0.257 respectively. The results of this study showed that FMD is an important cattle disease in the study area. This fact justifies the need of further studies to determine the current recently circulating FMD virus strains and factors responsible risk factors which might associate with disease strain. This helps to select the serotype in vaccine for control disease. | en_US |
