This descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in Elobied hospital during the period from January 2009 to March 2009, to determine the blood parameters and hemoglobin status in parents of sicklers referred to Elobied hospital. The study included parents of a total number of 35 patients in addition to 10 control samples. Complete blood count was done by use of hematology analyzer, and the means of blood parameters were compared with the control samples. Sickling test was also performed. Hemoglobin type was determined by use of electrophoresis. The study found that all parents were positive for sickling test, and all had sickle cell trait. 60% were first degree related to others, while 40 % had no relationship. The mean of hemoglobin in parents was 12.4 g/dl, while in controls was 13 g/dl (P- value=0.27).Mean of red blood cells count (RBCs) in parents was 4.7 x106/cumm, while in controls was 4.8x106/cumm (P-value=0.45).Mean of mean cell volume (MCV) in parents was 82.4 %, while in controls was 83.5 % (P-value=0.31). Mean of mean cell hemoglobin (MCH) in parents was 26.4pg,while in controls was 26.7 pg (P-value=0.46).Mean of mean cell hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) in parents was 31.9 % , while in controls was 32 % (P-value=0.70).Mean of packed cell volume (PCV) in parents was 38.3 %,while in controls was 39.9 % (P-value=0.31).Mean of white cells count (WBCs) in parents was 6.27x103/cumm, while in controls was 6.24x103/cumm (P-value=.097). Regarding to mean of platelets count ,in parents was 247 x 103 /cumm , while in controls was 234x103 /cumm (p- value=0.55). Accordingly, there were no significant differences between cases (parents) and controls in complete blood count. According to the RBCs morphology 85 % of the parents were normocytic normochromic , while 15 % were microcytic hypochromic, might be due to other causes like iron deficiency anemia . The distribution Tribes of highest frequency were: Bederia 20 % , Falata and Hawsa 13 % , Selehab 9 % , Kenana and Gawamaa 7% , Barno 4 % , Shurafa, Shwehat , Zonnara , Hawara , Tomam , Beni hussen , Maagla , and Messeria 3 % , Busharia , Barti , and Dar hamid 1%en_US
