Study of High K.V Technique in Chest X-ray

Abstract

The chest radiographs remain as one of the most commonly performed examination, with considerable repetition in many hospital in Khartoum, that’s due to poor selection of exposure factors (K.V – mAs). The selection of these factors depends on the experience of the technologist and the anatomical structures to be revealed. The researcher studied the use of high K.V technique in PA CXR to evaluate its role to clarify the various anatomical structures in the chest and to evaluate the image quality of the images done with high K.V. The study consisted of 60 patients examined by PA CXR. 30 of them examined with high K.V and the other 30 with low K.V the collected data includes age, sex, clinical diagnosis, anatomical structures, and X-ray findings, for the image quality in the collected data group contrast, sharpness and the resolution. Then the collected data correlated with K.V (High & low K.V). The results showed that the use of high K.V techniques is excellent in revealing the heart, hilar region, lymph nodes and great vessels, while reducing the appearance of the bone visibility. In the image quality, the result showed that contrast in high K.V was low while increasing the degree of sharpness and resolution in comparison with the low K.V images.
