dc.description.abstractThis study aimed at exploring the role of gender and motivation variables in learning English as a foreign language. The data were gathered by using a questionnaire and a test. The study focused on boys’ and girls’ academic achievements and motivation. The researcher used the descriptive analytical method. The sample of the study comprised thirty teachers and thirty students drawn exclusively from Wad al Saih Secondary School. The data were analyzed by using the statistical package for Social Sciences Program (SPSS). The analysis of the data showed that females are better language learners than males and more over girls have higher motivation to learn English as a foreign language compared to male students. At the end of the study the researcher presented some recommendations: males and females should be provided with a variety of strategies to meet their unique needs and preferences to overcome their disadvantages and develop the most effective learning approaches, in addition to that male students should be motivated to learn English language better.en_US
