Optical properties of matter are very important in many applications. Strictly speaking in solar cells and light sensors. This work aims to study the change of optical properties of glass and plastic when doped with Cu and Fe. The methodology of this work is to find the empirical relations which show how some optical properties can be controlled by the doping process. These empirical relations were explained theoretically. In this work Glass and plastic, samples are doped with Cu at different concentrations. The results obtained show that increasing Cu concentration decreases absorption coefficient, refractive index, real and imaginary electric permittivity, whereas the energy gap increases. These results surprisingly agree with the theoretical model that treats Cu as an electric dipole. Also, Fe material with different concentrations was used to dope glass and plastic samples. The absorption coefficient, refractive index, real and imaginary electric constants decrease as Fe concentration increases. These results agree with theoretical relations. One can conclude that changing Cu and Fe concentration change some optical properties of glass and plastic-like refractive index and absorption coefficient.en_US
