Abstract: | Cyclic Steam Injection (CSI) is an effective thermal recovery process; this process may lead to change in the geo-mechanical characteristic of the rock, and deformation of the rock layers; this effect was not considered or studded before during the application of CSI in Sudan; the present study addressed the important of considering this effect as a case study in FC-18. The dynamic elastic modules has been calculated using well logging data of FC-18 assuming Brocher method are applicable; those calculated parameter was used to build single well radial Geo-mechanical model Using STARS simulator. The model has been matched using different production data (oil rate, water rate and cumulative production); reasonable matching was achieved between the real data and the calculated data; then, the model was used to evaluate the effect of CSI on Geo-mechanical properties based on calculated parameter such as safety factor, yield state, volumetric strain, pore pressure and stresses. Based on evaluation, deformation in FC-18 is expected and the image log and fracture identification test to confirm simulations results are required. |
