Abstract: A fiber optic communication system has been employed using 2.5G (downstream) next generation passive optical network architecture. The problem is the shorter range possible commonly no more than 20 km, that reason of study and analysis the optimal requirements, configurations and parameters that can used to design and implement an XG-PON downstream Network. The simulation was done using Matlab. The results have been compared for non-return to zero and return to zero formats for downstream data in terms of quality factor value. It has been observed that return to zero modulation format is superior compared to conventional on-return to zero modulation and the distance has been increased to 80km.
