Abstract: Energy is an important part of most aspects of daily life. Electrical power generation is an important factor for development of people. The generation of electricity in Sudan depends on the thermal generation plants and the owing to of the shortage of fossil fuels in Sudan and its impact on the environment some methods must be used to solve this problem and these methods are analysis of energy and exergy. In this research, (energy and exergy were analyzed) in unit fifth’s steam generator in Khartoum North power plant. The main energy losses in the chimney were found to be 18% of the total energy entering the steam generator, followed by losses in the combustion chamber of 9.2%. For the exergy, the highest loss rate in the combustion chamber was 39.8%, then the evaporator with 12.7% of the total exergy entering the steam generator this at the (90%Boiler Maximum Continuous Rate) and it was observed that the chemical reaction is the main source of exergy destruction.
