Investigating Linguistic Problems in Rendering Idioms and Journalistic Terms from English to Arabic and Vise Versa

Abstract

This study aims at investigating linguistic problems encountered by M.A. Students of translation in rend idioms and journalistic terms from English to Arabic and vise versa. To achieve the goal of this study, the researcher followed descriptive analytical method; the study targeted M.A. Students of Translation at Sudan University of Science and Technology, College of languages in academic year 2017. The researcher used a test as a tool for data collection. From this study the researcher obtained that: most of the students are unable to render idioms from English to Arabic and vise versa and some students lack the knowledge of rendering journalistic terminologies in translation task.. This study recommended the M.A. students of translation to recognize idioms before translating from English into Arabic. This study recommended the syllabus designer that the area of journalistic terms should be sufficiently covered in the university syllabus.
