Abstract: Across- sectional study conducted during the period from February 2011-june2011, compared the plasma level of total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density and low density lipoproteins and HbA1c of 52 patient. With type 2 diabetes mellitus ( 28 male and 24 female) with 28 control group . participant in this study were from Jabber Abu Alaz center in Khartoum state male and female were matching in term of age the plasma levels of cholesterol , triglycerides , high density and low density lipoproteins were measured using BTS 305 spectrophotometer and commercial Kits from biosystem Company. The mean of plasma cholesterol was significantly raised in diabetic patient compared to control group (p=0.000) and also raised in female compared to male ( 0.378 ) The mean of plasma triglycerides was significantly raised in diabetic patient compared to control group (p=0.000) and also raised in female compared to male . The mean of plasma high density lipoproteins was significantly raised in diabetic patient compared to control group (p=0.001) and while there was no significant differences between the male and female (p=0.536 ) . The mean of plasma low density lipoproteins was significantly decrease in diabetic patient compared to control group (p=0.031) and also there was decrease between the male and female From the result of this study it is concluded that : Diabetes mellitus increase the plasma levels of total cholesterol and low density lipoproteins more adversely in females compared to males and also in diabetic group increase risk of cardiovascular disease compared to healthy group .
