dc.description.abstractThis study aimed at investigating the strategies of teaching and learning vocabulary at Sudanese secondary level. In this study, the researcher has adopted the descriptive analytical method. He distributed a questionnaire to (20) English language teachers who were selected randomly from different secondary schools at Khartoum locality to collect data on how to teach and learn vocabulary at Sudanese secondary level. The study revealed that the majority of teachers supported the idea of the availability of English libraries and teaching English literature at the secondary level. But they have disagreed that most of the teachers don’t use appropriate methods when teaching vocabulary because most of them explain the meanings of words in Arabic language and some times out of the context. The researcher recommended reintroduction of English libraries and the teaching of English literature to improve the students' vocabulary in addition to training teachers on how to teach vocabulary using appropriate methods. Finally the researcher suggested that further studies should be conducted on developing vocabulary at both basic and secondary levels and the current English syllabus must be revised as it doesn't help much in developing the students' vocabulary.en_US
