| Abstract: | Across sectional study conducted during the period of February to June 2011. In this study , plasma total cholesterol(TC) ,triglyceride(TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL-c) and low density lipoprotein(LDL-c) were estimated in 58 apparently pregnant women during normal pregnancy (16 in first trimester, 19 in second trimester, 23 in third trimester) as atest group, and 35 apparently healthy non pregnant women included as a control group. The mean of plasma levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride were significantly increased in the pregnant group when compared with the control group (P< 0.05) whereas there was no significant difference between the means of the plasma high and low density lipoproteins of the pregnant group when compared with the control group (P > 0.05). The comparison between the different trimesters of pregnancy for plasma total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-c and LDL-c levels shows insignificant difference. The study shows a moderate positive correlation between plasma levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride in the pregnant group. This study concluded that plasma levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides are increased in Sudanese pregnant women, whereas high and low density lipoproteins are not affected during pregnancy, and the plasma levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides have moderate positive correlation during .pregnancy |
