This study focused on the kidney malfunction in respect to filtration and excretion, therefore the main objective of this study was to characterize the GFR disorders by using renal scintigraphy, in order to relate the GFR to specific renal pathology. This study was conducted at Radiation an Isotopes Center in Khartoum at the nuclear medicine department, in the period from Feb 2011 to Jun 2011. The data were collected from 52 patients with renal problems where 28 patients had non-functioning kidney and 24 had obstructive kidney. 99m Tc- DTPA were administered to the patient intravenously and gamma camera ‘Philips’ was used to detected the count and hence GFR were calculated. The result showed that the GFR was linearly associated with the age, weight and height in an inverse fassion for non function and obstructive kidney group. The coefficient for the non- function kidney group is equal to 0.64ml/year, 0.3ml/cm, and 0.3ml/Kg for age, height and weight respectively and for the obstructive one it was 0.22ml/year, 0.09ml/cm, and 0.09ml/Kg respectively. In respect to maximum uptake for the non-function kidneys group the GFR were decrease by coefficient equal to -0.5ml/min and 0.2ml/min for the right and left kidney respectively, while for the obstructive group the GFR increased by a coefficient equal to 1.4 ml/min and 0.42 ml/min for the right and left kidney respectively.en_US
