Abstract: | The aim of this research is to design a precise statistical model that shows the relation between the possibility of the incidence of prostate cancer and the disease risk factors. Also this research aims to determine the best of the three statistical methods to suit the research data related to prostate cancer and to identify the most important risk factors of the disease those increase its prevalence. The data were collected from Khartoum Nuclear Hospital regarding the prostate cancer patients for the following independent variables were collected for cases and controls: Age, Occupation, State, Marital status, Family history, Animal fat, Fruits & Green vegetables, Overweight, Cholesterol, Blood pressure, Prostate medications, Alcohol, Smoking, Developing one or more of these diseases: ‘Syphilis, gonorrhea, chronic prosatitis, and prostate enlargement‘, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA). The analytical approach was used in analyzing the data by using the logistic regression analysis, chi-square test, and Mantel-Haenszel test to identify the risk factors associated with the occurrence of the disease. In order to implement this, prostate cancer patients were specified, and sample of 250 men was taken. The data were collected through a questionnaire, and from the patient records. This study concluded that the most important risk factors that agreed by all three procedures were age and PSA. The analysis also showed that chisquare test is the best in terms of determining the risk factors for the disease because itcontains the highest values for the variables. Based on the research findings the following points are to be recommended: Maximum use of the Mantel-Haenszel procedure in the biostatistics field, Raising awareness of the need to examine PSA periodically, especially when the age equal to or above 50 years, because age is the strongest risk factor for the appearance of prostate cancer. |
