dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted in El.shaab Teaching Hospital and Jabir Abuliz Diabetic Center, and the study aimed to estimate HDL-c and LDL-c in type2 diabetic patient during the period of January _ July 2011. The study include 90 individuals as study group, 60 are diabetic as case group, 30 of them are diabetic with heart problem and the others 30 without heart problem, also this study include 30 individual as control group. 55 of them are males and 35 are females, with age of 35 _ 85 years. Serum blood samples was collected from both study groups ( case, control) by standard procedure and estimated for HDL-c, LDL-c (high, low density lipoprotein) level. Using SPSS software for descriptive and statistical analysis for result of HDL-c, LDL-c and data under investigation with significant of (0.05), were compared between patients and control groups. Statistical analysis showed that there was significant difference in the means of HDL-c (P: 0.000) and LDL-c (P: 0.000) when compared between diabetic (case group) and non-diabetic (control group). For the comparison between two diabetic groups (diabetic with heart problem and diabetic without heart problem) the statistical analysis show no significant relation with P value = 0.0917 for HDL-c and 0.109 for LDL-c, with (mean = 34.0± 12 mg/dL), for diabetic groups in HDL level and (mean = 95.0± 20 mg/dL), for two diabetic group in HDL level and (mean = 95.0± 20 mg/dL) for diabetic with heart problem and (107± 26mg/dL) for LDL-c. The sex, age and other diseases beside diabetes were statistically insignificant in regard to HDL-c and LDL-c level with P value >0.05. The family history show significant difference in HDL-c (P-value 0.016), unlike LDL-c which is statistically in significant (P-value 0.790). The correlation of HDL-c, LDL-c with duration of diabetes showed statistically insignificant relation (r: 0.206, sig: 0.0114, r: -0.051, sig: 0.696), respectively. In addition, the FBG was statistically insignificant in correlation with duration of diabetes disease and level of HDL-c and LDL-c (r: -0.096, sig: 0.464, r: 0.000, sig: 0.997, r: 0.175, sig: 0.182), respectively. Beside these correlations the relation of HDL-c also showed statistically insignificant correlation (r: 0.088, sig: 0.503). There was significant decrease of HDL-c and significant increase of LDL-c in diabetic patient when compared to that of non-diabetics.en_US
