| Abstract: | The fixed oil of Jateorhiza palmate was extracted by maceration. GC-MS analysis was conducted . Major constituents are : 16,22-epoxycholestane (6.39%), tetrahydro4b,8,8-trimethyl-3-phenenthrenol (5.55%), 3-carene (5.19%), 17-methyl-alpha-androst-2-en-17-beta-ol (4.73%), alpha-phellandrene (3.75%), 9-octadecenoic acid methyl ester (2.95%) and alpha- pinene (2.34%). The oil was assessed for antimicrobial potency against: Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram Positive bacteria), Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Gram negative bacteria) and the fungal species:Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans and significant activity was observed for the oil |
