Abstract: This descriptive study carried out in order to assess the heart in hypertensive patients. The study was done in Atbara Medical Complex, Atbara city from the September to November 2016. There were 50 patients, 30 female, 20 male all of them suffering from hypertension selected randomly their ages between 25-80years with mean age 57.5 years. Echocardiography using 2.5-6.5 MHZ sector transducer was performed. The study found that the majority 78% of patients had a duration of hypertension from 1-5 years. The study found out that 82% of patients had a diastolic dysfunction , 46%of patients had valvular lesions, 32% of patients had left ventricular hypertrophy and 23% of patients had left atrium dilatation. The study concluded that the hypertension can affect the heart structure and function and use of echocardiography was very important to evaluate this. Finally the study recommended that any hypertensive patients must be examined by echocardiography as routine exam to follow up and to avoid the complications.
