dc.description.abstractThis research–work aims upgrading and improving the Existing upper- Draught Kiln Temperature Distribution, Reducing the Drying Cycle period by utilizing of the Kiln Hot Gases, and Improving both the kiln and dryers productivity and quality of Soba Brick Pilot Plant, .which is one of the existing modern brick factories in the Sudan This work summarizing the immeasurable research– work and studies previously under taken by numerous contributors in the field of Brick- Firing and Drying, mainly at the Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) of University of Khartoum. The documents included the types of Kilns being used, beginning from the old primitive ones up to the new modern fully automatic ones, with their .different characteristic and specifications Extensive field – work and laboratory studies including all the different proposed modifications and improvements during this work were being fully applied and used during the factory operation, .confirmed better obtained results The out–come of these experimental studies results were deeply :very effective, that is to say The plant productivity had been increased up to 60% .1 instead of 20% with a minimum losses at the dryers and .the kiln (3%) and (2%) respectively The drying period in the dryer was reduced to only 4 days .2 .as designed instead of 10 days or more Utilization of the kiln hot gases in drying process increased .3 .(the kilns efficiency up to (67.4%) instead of (38% The existing upper- draught kiln was simply modified to function like on efficient down-draught one without affecting its building structure, avoiding the high cost required for the needed civil work. Then about 7.5 million .Sudanese pounds will be saved .5 Fully information had been collected about the vertical shaft brick kiln (VSBK) at Soba. It can be easily completed .and work as a new type of kilns in the Sudan .6 This research–work results will support the idea of BRRI of :University of Khartoum to fulfill its main objectives First as a central consultant of Building Materials .a .development unit in the Sudan Secondly there will be an international contribution and technology transfer on building materials development .with the other similar Institutesen_US
