Abstract: A cross-sectional Study conducted during the period from march 2012 to july 2012,compared the plasma level of total cholesterol,triglyceride,highdensity and low density lipoproteins and hemoglobin A1c of 60 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(32 males and 28 females), and 40 control group. Participants of this study were from Military Republic Hospital in Khartoum state. Male and female were matching in term of age, the plasma levels of cholesterol,triglyceride,high density and low density lipoproteins were measured using BTS 305 Spectro photpmeter and commercial kits from Biosystem company, and for HbA1c used Nycocard II. The mean of plasma cholesterol was significantly raised in diabetic patients compared to control group (p=0.042) and also raised in females compared to males (p=0.038). The mean of plasma triglyceride was significantly raised in diabetic patients compared to control group(p=0.042) but in significant in female compared to male(p=0.527). The mean of plasma high density lipoprotein was insignificant in diabetic patients compared to control group (p=0.78)and there was no significant difference between male and female(p=0.789). The mean of plasma low density lipoprotein was significantly increase in diabetic patients compared to control group(p=0.032) but there was insignificant in male and female(p=0.331). From the results of this study is concluded that: Diabetes mellitus significant increase the plasma level of total cholesterol, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein. Also total cholesterol adversely increase in female compared to male these may increase the incidence of heart disease in female compared to male in addition to increase incidence of atherosclerosis in diabetic patients compared to healthy group
