Abstract: This thesis investigates the behavior of uid ow between two parallel horizontal plates; one held stationary and the other is moving with a constant velocity. This ow is known as the unsteady Couette ow. The uids considered here are the Newtonian and Maxwell uids. The velocity equations of this ow problem for the uids are obtained and their exact solutions are established using the eigenfunction expansion and Laplace transform methods. The thesis details earlier published works and in some steps simpler approaches are used.
