The main objective of this study is to test the correlation between age of the patients , and the duration of diabetes mellitus with the ejection fraction and heart dimensions. 35 cases of consecutive diabetic patients, who were referred to echocardiography department, were sent from El Derby Wound Care Centre, for the assessment of their heart condition to undergo HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) which accept minimum cardiac ejection fraction of 55%. The sample included 25 male and 10 female patients, the average age for the study population was 58.38±10.89 years, the younger age group was the female having average age of 56.8±13.05 years, compared to males whose average age was 59±9.83 years. The average duration of diabetes mellitus for the study population was 16.78±7.95 years, with slight increase in females. The average EF for the total sample was 57.96±3.56%, males have higher average EF compared to that of females The study found positive correlation between DM duration and each of: LVSD, and LVDD. The study found negative correlation between: EF and each of: DMD, and LVDD. Also positive correlation is found between: EF and the following cardiac dimensions: LVSD, IVS, and LVPWD.en_US
